One of the most common concerns parents have about online schooling is how their child will socialise and interact with peers. Will they feel isolated learning from home? Will they have opportunities to make friends? At TLC LIVE Online School, we understand the importance of social development and ensure that students have plenty of opportunities to connect with others.
Building friendships in an online setting
Although online school has its obvious differences from a traditional classroom, there are still plenty of ways students can socialise and build friendships and communities.
Live Virtual Classes – Our interactive lessons encourage collaboration, discussions, and group activities, allowing students to engage with classmates in real time.
Extracurricular activities: beyond the classroom
Education is about more than just academics—it’s about personal growth, interests, and hobbies. At TLC LIVE Online School, we provide opportunities for students to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities:
- Virtual cubs – From book clubs to coding groups, students can join like-minded peers in shared interests.
- Wellbeing Wednesdays – A dedicated time each week for students to focus on mental health, mindfulness, and personal development. This time can be used to spend with friends and family.
- PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education) – Sessions are available to help students develop essential life skills and build confidence.
- Let’s Create (AQA Certified Courses) – A variety of courses that allow students to develop skills in specific interests, if classmates share similar interests, the ‘Lets Create’ learning can be done collaboratively – A great way to build friendships with classmates!
Will my child feel isolated?
A key advantage of online learning is that students can develop independence while still being part of a supportive community. We purposely have small class sizes (up to 9 students per class) to encourage tailored and focused teaching and learning, however this gives students excellent opportunities to really get to know their classmates!
A thriving social experience
Online schooling doesn’t mean missing out on friendships and social experiences. With a blend of structured peer interaction, engaging extracurricular activities, and strong teacher support, students at TLC LIVE Online School can enjoy a well-rounded and socially fulfilling education.
