KS3 curriculum

KS3 Citizenship

Delivery

Students will take part in a one-hour Citizenship lesson.

Citizenship lessons will be delivered as group lessons, even where students normally take part in 1:1 lessons, except where there is a requirement for a student to be kept separate from other students in accordance with their EHC plan.

Coverage

Full details regarding coverage in Citizenship lessons at KS3 can be found in the Scheme of Work and Weekly Learning documents.

Speaking and Listening

Students and teachers will be using their microphones during online lessons to speak to each other. Speaking and listening will take place in every lesson through conversations, discussions, watching videos and all other aural interactions. Students will be encouraged to develop their speaking and listening skills naturally during the course of lessons. SEND students and those with additional needs who are unwilling or unable to use their microphones during lessons will demonstrate listening through their participation in lessons and will communicate through the chat box.

Literacy

Literacy (including reading, writing and vocabulary) will be integral to every lesson to varying degrees depending on the student’s level of ability and any additional needs they may have. Students will be expected to read and write as part of every lesson, with allowances given for students with SEND.

Numeracy

Numeracy will be incorporated into lessons as appropriate for each topic.

Bias

Political discussions will be facilitated by the teacher in an unbiased way. Learning materials will be unbiased.
