Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enrol my child anytime during the year?

Enrolment can take place at any point throughout the academic year, with students joining the school and lessons at the start of a new half term.

What are the benefits of online vs in face-to-face learning?

Online learning offers several benefits compared to traditional in-school education:

  • Students can access work at any time and from any location with an internet connection, making it easier to balance studies with work, family, and other commitments.
  • At the TLC LIVE Online School, you can access learnt content outside of lessons, enabling students to progress at their own speed and review material as needed.
  • Learning from home or another preferred environment can reduce distractions, reduce anxiety, and create a more comfortable and stress-free study space.
  • Students gain proficiency with digital tools and technologies, which are increasingly important in the modern workforce.
  • We use a wealth of multimedia resources, including videos, interactive content, and online libraries, enhancing the learning experience.
  • We can provide students with instant feedback on questions.

How many subjects does my child have to enrol for?

We offer two educational pathways at both KS3 and KS4. Please see our website for information.

Is the school accredited?

We are currently working towards online accreditation and are in communications with the DfE and Ofsted.

How is my child’s progress measured and supported?

After each lesson the parent or carer will receive feedback and key information about the lesson. At the end of each half term, reports are sent including comments from teachers, attitude to learning, any assessment results and progress updates. We also have termly parents’ evenings.

Does my child need to be on camera?

All students will need to be on camera for am and pm registration, just to show us that they are present and for safeguarding purposes. In lessons, however, we do not use cameras. This is to reduce distractions, pressure, and anxiety. Our experience of over a decade of online learning shows that it can lead to a large increase in confidence and create a much more comfortable environment, therefore giving learners the opportunity to thrive in their studies.

Do you work with international children?

Yes. Our curriculum is based on UK exam boards but can be accessed anywhere in the world. At KS3 level we follow the national curriculum, then at KS4 we follow UK exam boards.

All lessons will be delivered in English and a proficiency in English will be needed.

Can my child add more subjects after enrolling?

The school has two education packages as KS3 and KS4, one focussing on core subjects only, the other providing a more rounded curriculum.  Additional subjects can’t be covered as part of the school curriculum but can be provided by TLC LIVE Online Tutoring at an additional cost.

How long do I have to commit to the school?

We are committed to providing a stable, consistent education for all our students and aim to be the long-term education provision for students. However, we recognise that we may also be required to support students for short-term circumstances and, as such, we only require parents and carers to sign up by term.

How do I pay?

Termly fees will be invoiced before the start of term and will be required to be paid before the term starts.

Do I need any special equipment to join the lesson?

Students will need a laptop or desktop computer to access lessons.  We believe that students learn best when they are comfortable, healthy and safe, and so request that students have a suitable working environment with a desk and appropriate chair in a quiet location. A headset can be useful for making audio clearer for both the student and teaching staff.

Will my child get homework?

No. All our weekly lesson resources are available outside of lesson time, so students can work independently if they choose to or have missed any lessons, but in most cases, it is not expected for students to complete homework.

Do you offer flexible payment plans?

Fees will be invoiced termly, and payment expected before the term starts.  Please do get in touch to discuss this further.

How do I take my child out of their current school?

If your child attends a mainstream school, you can remove them by informing the headteacher in writing that you plan to homeschool. The school will inform the local authority, but you don’t need permission to do this. However, if your child is in a special school, you must obtain consent from the local authority.

My child has special educational needs how will you accommodate them?

All children with SEND and/or an EHCP are given the same rights as other children in terms of their admission to the school. TLC LIVE Online School considers applicants with disabilities and other needs, ensuring we can meet their individual needs without potentially impacting other students’ education. A comprehensive understanding of each student’s needs is compiled from information provided by parents/carers and previous schools during the admissions process, enabling a thorough evaluation by our SEND Coordinator.

How do I book exams?

We support you in registering as a private or external candidate for GCSE exams. You can see centres near to you by checking the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) here:

https://www.jcq.org.uk/private-candidates/

There are additional fees that exam centres charge, which can vary depending on location and time of registering (late exam entry is an additional cost).
